Haul Out the Holly: Amanda's Christmas

Happy Saturday!! We are right in the midst of the Christmas season. Let's read about Amanda's Christmas before we head out to battle the crowds, watch our Christmas movies, and wrap those presents... Shall we?

What scent makes you think of Christmas? Yankee Candle Fresh Balsam

What is your favorite childhood memory of Christmas? As kids we were never allowed to go see our presents from Santa until mom and dad were awake. I remember us running into mom and dad's room to wake them up and then having to wait on mom to come back and report to us if Santa came.

What is your favorite Christmas tradition? Christmas morning breakfast with my family

What Christmas movie is a must-see each year? Home Alone 2

What is that one Christmas drink that gets you right into the swing of things? Starbucks caramel apple spice

What's the Christmas treat you can't let the season go by without eating? It's safe to say that I love ALL treats. Some of my fave for Christmas are: peanut butter balls, Little Debbie Christmas trees (the white one with the cream in the middle), white chocolate covered oreos, oreo balls, Planter's peanut brittle nut medley, and shortbread cookies. (Amanda also texted me after the fact to make sure I added Reese's Christmas trees to her list.. Noted.)

Describe a favorite Christmas decoration/ornament in your home? The bird themed tree we decorate to honor my grandma

Tell us about a scripture that means a lot to you during this season.

I love Old Testament Scriptures that tell of Jesus coming. A favorite of mine is Isaiah 9:6-7

For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the greatness of his government and peace
there will be no end.
He will reign on David’s throne
and over his kingdom,
establishing and upholding it
with justice and righteousness
from that time on and forever.
The zeal of the Lord Almighty
will accomplish this.

What part of the Christmas story impacts you the most, obviously Jesus but anyone else? Joseph. He never wanted to shame or take revenge out on Mary. Even in his plan to divorce her before Gabriel came he was going to do it in private. He honored and protected her in a socially unacceptable situation.

What is one thing you've learned in 2014? That the Lord does have a season and time for everything

What excites you about 2015? The unknown. Watching my nieces grow. Seeing more of the world. Learning to love Jesus more. Reading books. Trying new things.
