This is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 1 John 4:10
Love the Lord your God with all your heart. Deuteronomy 6:5
Love is patient. Love is kind. It does not envy. It does not boast. It is not proud. It is not rude. It is not self-seeking. It is not easily angered. It keeps no record of wrongs. 1 Corinthians 13: 4-6
There is no fear in love. 1 John 4:18
Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. 1 John 4:8
I was reminded by a tweet this morning of the purpose of lent. Lent is not meant to be a time where we do something for God, but it should be a time where we reflect on what He has done for us. Interestingly and wonderfully enough, Lent should begin right around the time of Valentine's Day. What a perfect day, among all days, to reflect on God's love for us and the sending of His Son to rescue us from death and bring us into a relationship with Him. And I'm sure there are all these color theorists who say that red is a romantic color and so and so as to why red is THE Valentine's color. But I think it has to do with the blood that was shed for us. THere was love in the blood of the sacrifice of Christ.
Happy Valentine's Day!
