Thinking and Singing.. Some More

Today I decided to bring Christmas to work. And by bring, I most nearly mean a wreath on my door (which I forgot) and music playing in my office. I happened upon a 90's Christmas music Pandora station. Game. Over.

While I've been humming and singing along for all to hear, I started thinking about some of my favorite Christmas songs - their lyrics and some scriptures to go along. Some of these are just beautiful and get lost when we are humming along or just simply not paying attention. Pay attention, my friends. Pay attention. Think while you sing! There's good stuff to be had in those famed carols of old.

O Holy Night
A thrill of hope; the weary world rejoices.

From you [Bethlehem] One will go forth for Me to be ruler in Israel. His goings forth are from long ago, from the days of eternity. And He will arise and shepherd His flock in the strength of the Lord, in the majesty of the name of the Lord His God. And they will remain, because at that time He will be great to the ends of the earth. This One will be our peace.

Joy to the World
No more let sins and sorrows grow
Nor thorns infest the ground
He comes to make His blessings flow.
Far as the curse is found.

And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise you on the head and you shall bruise him on the heel. Genesis 3:15

For the anxious longing of creation waits eagerly for the revealing of the sons of God. For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself also will be set free from is slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation groans... For in hope we have been saved. Romans 8: 19-22, 24a

Hark the Herald Angels Sing
Peace on earth and mercy mild
God and sinners reconciled.

Yet He has now reconciled you in His fleshly body through death, in order to present you before Him holy and blameless and beyond reproach.  Colossians 1:22

All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ. 2 Corinthians 5:18
